Macintosh Classic II Flicker Issue Fixed

So since I’m moving from my parent’s house, I started to move some of my stuffs, including the old Macintosh Classic. I brought the computer by hand carrying using train, because the things is fragile and I don’t trust if I’m using the regular courier. I handle the Mac very carefully, hoping that no inside components get knocked or loose because of bumping.

The Issue

So after I back to my house, I tried to turn it on and found that it powered on normally. But, some flicker appears as you can see in the video, and I don’t remember if this issue happened before at my parent’s house. No, it’s not because the camera shutter speed, it looks the same with naked eye.

So the next day, I tried to open the Mac and trying to find the issue. My predictions is that something gets loose inside while transporting. But nothing, tried to clean the board. Scrapping electrolytes leftover from the previous restoration on the analog board.

But still nothing.

The Solution

After little bit of thinking. The difference between my house and my parent’s is the power source. Thinking that maybe my house’s power line is noisy that effects the CRT screen.

So I tried to using UPS since it has internal stabilizer, and found that is fixed!

No more flickering

So it was fixed. But then I realized that my house power line is noisy which is bad, need to install some stabilizer for my electronics stuffs 😔
